Tile resolution

After one email this morning to the PM and a couple of phone calls with the flooring company, our tile problems have been resolved pretty painlessly.  Here's what we agreed to do:
  • For the hall bath, leave the tub surround as-is with the white 6" tile, but upgrade the floor tile to the same as the owner's bath (level C) at no extra charge and put it on the diagonal.  This way, they save the labor and destruction of removing the shower tiles and we get a nicer floor.
  • For the owner's bath, move the durango shelves to where we wanted them.  Leave the floor tiles as-is instead of ripping them out and putting them on the diagonal.  This will avoid destruction of the subfloor and a bunch of added labor.  Because we compromised on this, they will also seal all of the grout in the showers and floors free of charge and guarantee the sealant for 15 years.
While I'm a little disappointed at not having my diagonal tiles in the owner's bath, I think that overall this worked out well.  I was content with our choice of 6" almond tile in the hall bath, but it will look so much nicer with the upgraded tile.  We also don't have to worry about sealing the grout ourselves. ;)

I mentioned the crooked window in my email to the PM, but I haven't received any word on what they are going to do.  Friday is our weekly PM update, so if we don't see/hear anything before then we will definitely ask.

  1. Score on not having to seal the grout yourself!! I'm glad they came up with a solution you can live with.

  2. Good to hear that you are getting something for all the trouble. Just another reminder that I'll need to stay on top of my PM and the subs when things are going up for me.

  3. This turned out pretty cool!! You now have upgraded tile in the guest bathroom which is going to bring some color to the room and it will be on a diagonal. I love the idea that you also received sealant guarantee for 15 years! MAJOR SCORE!!

btw-I can't to find out how they are going to resolve the window issue!!!!

  4. Great! The white tile in the shower will look nice, but everyone will be looking at the beautiful upgraded tile flooring. ;)

  5. Good to hear you have a resolution. All this drama about soap dishes, I've decided to scrap them. Yesterday I called CTI and asked them to be removed, since we agreed that they aren't that pretty, take up space, and more importantly we don't use bar soap. It's a little late to be requesting the durango style, but even now that I see what they are, I can't say they look too helpful, except maybe for putting decorations on, they don't even look that stable, but I could be wrong. I guess instead we are going with those pole hanging basket things, and/or shower basket hanger things. And for our daughter, who never puts the lids back on the bath soap and shampoo bottles, we are getting her dispensers because she keeps breaking the lids =)

    1. Isz Wisz,

I noticed in the guest bathroom that the durango showers are best suited to be installed in the back corner of the shower. When the shower is larger it is okay for them to be installed near the shower head. I was upset to see the durango shelf installed to the front of the smaller bathroom because it looked unsafe. Our PM was gracious to have them switched to the other side. They were perfectly matched in our larger master bathroom. Lastly, they are stable from my testing.
